And one must place these individuals in the context of not only the time, but also of the religion (the Jewish religion being so oriented towards the man being the superior one in the family.)<br />That he wrote on the day of his marriage that this day "unites me to Rachel Gratz, a Treasure," surely shows his love and some sensitivity. I can't imagine TOO many males even today who would write such few words which mean so much....
